ABOUT US

The Thunderbird Grill is a 100% SMOKE FREE family owned, nostalgic restaurant located in beautiful Smithfield, Virginia. We take great pride in serving Classic AMERICAN Comfort Foods to those who still know the meaning of “Homemade” and who appreciate quality, service and value.

The building itself was originally a 1930’s Dairy Barn that was converted over to a restaurant in 1998 by Robert Cox. Back then it was called the Battery Park Grill. In 2008 the Middlebrooks Family took over, completely remodeled the place and changed the name to the Thunderbird Grill with a 60's era Motor Sports theme.

You'll find the "Gasoline Alley Dining Room" is the perfect place to bring family and friends. The "T-Bird Bar Room" has a warm, friendly atmosphere and the "John Wayne Game Room" is a great place to eat, throw darts and play pool. With it's retro look and feel, T-Birds (as it's called by the locals) has become quite the destination with travelers asking for directions to "that 60's Place!"

About our Food

We hand cut our own Steaks and grind our own Burger from fresh, never frozen, Certified Angus Beef. We slow roast our succulent Angus Prime Rib; We make all of our own salad dressings; We hand rub and marinate our famous T-Bird Wings; We make our own BBQ and Hot Sauces. Our "Thunder Bread"  is baked fresh daily.

We believe that it's the little things that make all the difference. Things like using REAL butter, extra virgin olive oil, kosher salt, the freshest spices and hand selected vegetables. We even deep fry in non-hydrogenated soy bean oil.

And although we specialize in Classic American Comfort Foods, rest assured that you can eat "Heart Healthy" and "Low Carb" here, too. We have fresh GREEN salads (no iceberg lettuce), along with the freshest Chicken & Seafood we can find.

So, if you want to enjoy some Great AMERICAN FOOD, take a trip down memory lane or just want to experience a bit of the “Happy Days” of yesteryear, then the Thunderbird Grill is a fun place to be.
